by robshotUPDATED: July 8th

I have received PowerRipper 1.20(beta), and testing it was one of the most exciting thing i did early this week!!! This new release will be in full release soon.

What's in it:

1. Improved Interface: Even easier than previous release, as you can choose your codec for .avi BEFORE beginning the ripping session. It also adds a button to launch PowerDVD (cool, eh?) and a bigger preview window.

2. New capabilities: This version answers questions about the 2gb limit of saving to .avi, by acommodating the ability to save as multiple .avi files. Do read the .txt on how to use this feature.

On the incompatibility report, I want to advise that before trying to rip on various aspect ratio, DO TRY FULL SIZE ripping at 1 or 2 second. People have reported that they received "can't open .avi" or "powerip stops after I hit start/begin". If you try at Full Size ripping, you would find that it actually works. The problem with the above errors are most probably caused by incompatible codecs for the .avi.

Also note, do not use hardware accelleration on Power DVD, as it might screw up the ripping session.

Swedish and Czech versions of Win95/98 still have some problem with the codecs. These two Windows version apparently only allows ripping at "Uncompressed" .avi. There is no workaround on this yet. If someone can make Poweripper works with Swedish and Czech Windows95/98, please email me on how you tweak your system.

UPDATED: July 5th

Due to the rapid progress on the ripping and encoding "technology" I have found this article getting somewhat confusing and in need of a total revamping. And reading a lot of whys and hows in various dvd forums encouraged me to redone this article. Btw, I also a frequent dweller of #pcdvd at EFNet.

Unfortunately, it is now taken over by some SCUMBAGS!!!. I now dwells on #pcdvd2, of the same EFNet. I wonder whether PowerRip was the reason of the #pcdvd takeover.

Anyways, here it is.

Robshot's Personal Note:

This Article was written to help PCDVD owners, enthusiasts, tinkerers and all of you who wants to have them trailers backed up or reformatted to other video filetypes. It also make possible a re-creation of .vob and make it playable on harddisk. I do not encourage a full DVD ripping, as it is truly AGAINST THE LAW. Trailer ripping, or Music Video Ripping, on the other hand, IS FUN :).
If any harm is done because of this (imho) creative article, I will remove it, and remove it, and remove it. It is not on my intention to encourage piracy. Piracy is wrong.. Piracy is wrong.

1. What is this Power Ripper, Total Recorder?
STOP PRESS!

Power Ripper V.1.17 released

Bug Report: Power Ripper still cannot work with the installed codecs for Windows 98 Swedish Edition. It only allows for uncompressed .avi capturing. 2 reports confirm this :/

Since the release of Power Ripper v.1.00, people have been successfull, and failed, on their quest to get those nice scenes on their DVD to their harddrive. One main bug for the Power Ripper v.1.00 is that it cannot rip PAL disc. This is due to the PAL 720x576 aspect ratio. Some have wondered whether it was because of the SCSI DVD drive they used. It was infact the PAL system that caused PowerRipper v.1.00 failed to capture the .avi. There was also some problem with Swedish Win98. It might be caused by some .dll. But now, version 1.10 up to 1.17 has solved the PAL capturing. Do yourself a favor, and read the .txts that comes with Powerip117.zip. The .txts explains how to use it, and its limitations.

Notes: Power Ripper does not handle AUDIO. Instead, get yourself Total Recorder or work in conjunction with CoolEdit Pro, and test them to find out whether they can help you with the audio or not.

For what it's worth, Power Ripper CAPTURES to .avi (with codecs already installed into your system). I suggest you try software mjpeg codecs. Http://www.jpg.com is a good start. Do yourself a favor and search for them with Yahoo. Mjpeg has many variations. But overall quality is VERY GOOD. If you have dvmpeg installed, you can directly re-route your .avi to dvmpeg codecs, and create .mpeg1 or .mpeg2 video only. Syncing should be handle on the later stage, and multiplexing can be done with xing encoder or dvmpeg.

All in all, for PAL system would-be-ripper, get Power Ripper version 1.17 and test it yourself. Read the .txt that comes with it carefully. Very useful for understanding how Power Ripper works. Some tips are included for gaining faster performance and stable capturing.

Quick tips on using Power Ripper:

1. Run Power DVD (set capture setting with Power DVD with either copy to file or to clipboard to speed things up a bit).

2. Pause at whatever spot you want.

3. Run Power Ripper, and set your parameter. Remember that DVD Movies ALMOST ALWAYS (there is some cases where it is not) stores the video in 24fps (NTSC) and 24fps (Pal). The player plays at 29.97fps (NTSC) or 25fps (PAL), but the data stored IS 24fps. (Test it yourself :)

4. Wait for the codecs windows to appear (if capturing to .avi), and set your .avi codecs, or if you have dvmpeg installed, set it to mpeg1 or mpeg2.

5. Click start, and Power Ripper will advance frame by frame grabbing the movie into .avi. It also automatically change to Power DVD window.

6. DO NOT click PLAY on Power DVD. It would screw your resulting .avi. Just sit and wait for Power Ripper to do its job.

7. You might want to try Total Recorder to grab the audio portion for later syncing. Its not stable. It might work, but it might not.

2. How do I sync them Audio & Video?

Okidoki Guys, FOOLPROOF Trailer RIPPING in VIDEO AND AUDIO :)

Note: Ripping Full DVD is against the law.. AGAINST THE LAW. Ripping Trailers if fun.
Now, everybody would have known the limitation of Power Ripper. ITS VIDEO ONLY, forchrissake!!! :)

Well, use total recorder 1.0 or Use total recorder 2.0 with CoolEdit Pro

Since we are still finding a way to correctly capture the audio digitally, some friends on IRC have come up with solutions. Some are complete, some are still buggy. But to present their solutions in an orderly fashion, here they are, from a buggy solution to the TOTAL SOLUTION :)

You might also want to consider Soft Encode Dolby Digital encoder, to re-create .AC3 files from your captured .wav (well, 2 channel Dolby Digital :)

Here presented the workaround, the way(s) to solve it. Thanks to CAREYER for Solution #1 and kREZ for Solution # 2. There are pros and cons for each solution. Find the pros and cons, and tell me. :) (hints.... it has something to do with audio KHz limitation :)

Solution #1 (thanks for Careyer for TR1 and keygen and the insight)

1. Find and Install Total Recorder 1.0
2. Apply the crack/patch/serial/whatever/even buy it!!! for Total Recorder 1.0
3. READ THE README.TXT of Total Recorder CAREFULLY, else you WONT BE ABLE TO USE IT AT ALL
4. Run PowerDVD, and choose a trailer. ( I DEFINITELY PICK a TRAILER as case study, to show how the sync will be PURFECT). Now, from here on, you play the trailer. PAUSE, then Rewind to set it to the BEGINNING of the TRAILER you choose.
5. Run the patched/cracked Total Recorder 1.0 and set the proper setting as indicated BY THE README.TXT.
6. Click Record on Total Recorder, and then Click Play on Power DVD. You will SEE that total recorder will start recording when there is SOUND coming in to your soundcard.. err.. whatever, and it will stop saving when the trailer ENDS. YOU STILL HAVE TO click STOP on the total recorder.
7. Save the .wav, and PLAY IT. WATCH THE TIME/LENGTH of the audio. WRITE that TIME/LENGTH of TIME.
8. Play again the Trailer with PowerDVD, and PAUSE, then REWIND.
9. Start Power Ripper. SET THE TIME EXACTLY as what you wrote down from the .WAV.
10. Hit Begin in Power Ripper, wait for the codecs window, and set it properly, and then... START.

At the end of the day, you have a perfect synced .avi and .wav :). Now the next course is for you to decide. Use Xing encoder or DVMPEG to encode and multiplex the audio/video to MPEG1, use DVMPEG or other MPEG-2 encoders to re create the MPEG-2 Trailer, if you want.

TIPS: If using Premiere, set the speed of the 24fps movie only to 100.03%. IT would help perfect syncing when exporting to NTSC mpeg1 VideoCD. (thanks to Gherk)

Solution #2 (Thanks to kREZ for writing it up to this article)

Workaround
----------
Use total recorder 2.0. Install it, and DON'T have it patched. Why not? Well, up until now there hasn't been a crack that I know of that actually worked: most of them will remove the nag screen and let you believe you're recording all of the audio. But in actuality you won't even get passed 1:04 min -something. Passed this 'limit' you'll hear nothing but high pitched noise! In case you don't believe me, give it a try and CHECK the output: if it worked like a charm, consider yourself lucky and maybe share your thoughts with the rest of us...
Cut the crap! Just tell me how it's done...
Setting up Total Recorder:
==========================
1) Install Total Recorder (download High Criteria's demo at: http://www.highcriteria.com/products.htm)
2) After the installation, Total's virtual sound driver will be automa- tically set as your default device for both playback and recording. Remember this, as it is very important: you can change it back later through Windows' Control Panel -> Multimedia Properties -> Audio -> Playback/Recording Preferred device. It won't hurt to check this now.! Sometimes Windows acts up - don't forget that audio will now be re- mapped through this virtual device. And some programs don't seem to like this. So, in case of trouble, change it back to your soundcard! I would suggest that you should ONLY use Total's VXD driver when you're going to capture audio from a DVD. And only for recording and not for playback as well - it's not necessary. Use your soundcard otherwise...
Soft DVD player:
================
Any player will do here, but I would suggest Cinemaster since you can control it's audio properties pretty easily with Region Selector. Region Selector will give you a nice interface - no more fiddling around with RegEdit. And the text file gives you a good explanation on how one can control/change the audio - it's good to know what you're doing!
1) Like I said, Region Selector handles the settings very well, and I use the following configuration: Sample Rate: 48000 Hz Sound Compression Mode: Normal AC3 DownSample Mode: Filter #5 (Best)
It's obvious that this has an impact on the audio output, so check your settings.
2) Load your soft DVD player, and go to the bit you would like to sample and pause playback.
Ready for some action?
======================
Again, any software will do! But if you're serious about audio editing, then get yourself a copy of "Cool Edit Pro". Another 'goodie' is "Sound Forge"... O.K. You've remapped the audio stream trough Total's virtual device driver, you've got your DVD player on hold and now you can start recor- ding with Cool Edit! Right, now press Ctrl N in order to create a new waveform. A pop up will appear asking for audio properties: best possible settings are a sample rate of 48KHz, 16-bit stereo recording. Before you hit the record button, you can make sure if everything is setup correctly by pressing F4, and go to "Devices". Underneath "Waveform Record" you should now see "Record through TotalRecorder". All set? Just press record and switch back to your DVD player and resume playback! That's it, simple huh?!
Yeah, genius! Never heard of a crack or something?
--------------------------------------------------

Sure I have, and these are the ones I found floating around on the Net. But sadly NONE of them worked! Remember, you don't have to believe me on this one - just try it out for yourself! Once again, if it works for you tell us about it and share what you know. Tell us what we're doing wrong!

That's it for now, try it and see if it works with your system.

On a personal note, I thank the Anonymous Programmer/Encoder for making this happen. Whoever you are, this thing has made quite a "shockwave" to the DVD playground. BYE BYE FRAME CAPTURE, WELCOME AUDIO/VIDEO CAPTURING :)))

4. MPEG2 the Correct DVD Way

I am jumping to this section by assuming that you have gone through the first version of this article, which is still available down .. down below :).

After so many tests with so many encoders, and reading so many "how to(s)" and manuals, I have found that some of the description about mpeg2 video streams that I wrote was slightly incorrect. This writing is a compilation of information taken from various resources. I thought re-writing and summing it up would help you. If you want to read the original information, you can visit http://www.neoucom.edu/Cruce/Dvd98/creating.html, or http://www.dvd-video.co.uk/index.htm (hey... give credit where it's due :)

1. DVD Video Disc: What is stored in disc in terms of frame rates.

A 35mm film (the original material/source of movies) runs at a rate of 24 frames per second. When it is transferred to video for encoding and DVD premastering, it will encounter a problem because NTSC video runs at almost 30 frames per second (actually 29.97 fps). PAL video (25fps) is also another different problem.

To be able to handle the NTSC film-to-video transfer, a process called telecine is performed. This process, generated "extra" video frames from the film to fill in the gaps. It is called "3-2 pulldown" (3 fields, 2 fields, 3 fields, ...). Each film frame is converted into two interlaced fields (odd and even) and every 5th video field is a duplicate of a previous one. A detail of this "3:2 pulldown" is available on .pdf format. Please read this .pdf from ARRI before you continue with the next section.

Now, the telecine transfer generates the "REDUNDANT" information (additional fields). If the resulting video is to be encoded to an mpeg2 video streams, the redundant information will also get stored, and resulting in a "not-nice" and "unprofessional" mpeg2 video stream :). It is a choice to make.

If you want to "remove" or "not include" this redundant information, MPEG-2 allows for storing 24 fps film images and inserting a "repeat first field" flag into the video stream. What the "repeat first field" does is actually tells the decoder in the player to perform a 3-2 pulldown for NTSC 60 (59.94) Hz displays. This means that the encoded mpeg2 SHOULD STILL HAVE 24fps. BUT HOW? Isn't the telecined video already has the redundant information nonetheless? Here is a 2 case scenario:

a. Encoding a Telecined-video stream captured from external sources (TV/Video/Laserdisc/DVD/etc) which already has redundant information.

If not carefully "tweaked" and "set", encoding a captured NTSC video streams which already contain the 3:2 pulldown process to mpeg2 will create an mpeg2 video stream which would contain the redundant information. This is generally not good for playback on PC Monitor, because the redundant information is visible and "disturbing". If the playback is in TV Monitor (output from your decoder card), it is hardly noticable.

However this is not necessary because your beloved player can carry out the frame rate conversion. So, at the encoding process, there are several ways to fix this. Ligos LSX Mpeg2 encoder has a "detect 3:2 pulldown" in the encoding menu to "NOT INCLUDE" the redundant information to your final mpeg2 video stream. Megapeg Mpeg2 encoder from Digigami also has this similar feature. Another encoder known to have this feature is Pixeltool Mpeg Expert and its software family, and Heuris Mpeg2 Professional. Anyone can help me obtain a demo is appreciated. The demo is sent to email, but being very limited in email space prevent me to have this 3mb demo :(.

Play around with the demos of these tools to get a grip of this "gig" :).

b. Encoding a 24fps digitally encoded movie already available from the internet in Quicktime or .AVI. (DON'T TELL ME YOU HAVE NO PLAN TO ENCODE THOSE STARWARS QUICKTIME to VOB - hey... they are 24fps and encoded with a good quicktime sorenson codecs :))))

Simply put, you have downloaded Phantom Menace trailer A and B, and those beautiful tvspots. They are all in Quicktime with Sorenson codecs. FYI, The Mummy and the teaser for the latest BOND is also at 24fps quicktime. Interesting, eh? Get them at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

You want them in .VOB for cool output to TV and showing off a friend visiting your den :). Now, there is no redundant information in the quicktime. BUT, there might be INTERLACING issues here. More on interlacing after we finish with this quicktime/avi to .vob business :)) (yeah.. I want Starwars on .VOB... screw interlace/deinterlace :)

Use Adobe Premiere to get you a correct aspect ratio of 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576(PAL), because the original quicktime/avi is not in that aspect ratio. Have the correct mpeg2 plugins for Premiere (dvmpeg, bbmpeg, megapeg) installed, and try encode to either NTSC (29.97fps), PAL (25fps), or Film (24fps). You will see that encoding to FILM at 24fps will create a shitty .mpeg2. WHY? Because the flag to "repeat first field" is not yet included. As of this writing, you can do with NTSC or PAL, while I dig information on how to put the "repeat first flag" info to make it THE CORRECT DVD WAY :). Remember, DVD Video is stored at 24fps ON DISC, while the player/decoder generates the redundant information while DISC IS PLAYED.

Notes on PAL film to video transfer: For PAL video which has a 50 Hz display, the decoder performs a 2-2 pulldown with a 4% speedup.

PREVIOUS UPDATE
UPDATED : June, 8
Update REMARKABLE: IT IS NOW POSSIBLE TO DO SOFTWARE ENCODING DIRECTLY FROM MPEG2 TO ANY STANDARD PC VIDEO FILES J )
Yes, MainActor v. 3.02 from www.mainactor.de. As a very surprising revalation, this software DOES encode from .m2v (the basic video stream from a .vob file dvd file) to any standard pc video files, such as .avi, .mov, and .mpg1 (VideoCD). The catch is that the software ONLY ENCODES UNENCRYPTED mpeg2 video files. There is still no way to break the encryption laid down to the commercial vob. Not now, at least.

The software is available in demo mode at www.mainactor.de, and being a demo, it will put a caption of MAINACTOR! In the middle of your output video file. MainActor itself acts as a video editor and video sequencer (a nle editing in comparison with Premiere). Being not at the first choice of NLE editing, MainActor surprises user with this Mpeg2 conversion features. It would be not long until MainActor gets the recognition it deserves.

Now to get an .m2v from an unencrypted .vob, you will need a demuxing program (software that lets you separate video and audio from a .vob into independent video and audio files). Tools for this are ExpertDemux from Pixeltools, DVMPEG and VobSnoopy. I recommend VobSnoopy, because it can separate .AC3 sound file. The other 2 cannot.

Speaking of .AC3, www.soundforge.com has a software licensed by dolby to allow you to MAKE .ac3 from a 2 channel audio (wavs) or even 6 channels to make it 5.1 channel .AC3. Unfortunately, a demo of such program is crippled, and will not allow you to do the feature they actually offer. The software is called Soft Encode, and it comes in 2 versions, to handle 2 channel (stereo), and 5.1 channel (DIGITAL baby groovy). This software can also re convert back an AC3 soundfile to pcm/wav soundfile. So use this to reconvert your .ac3 to wav.

The moral of this update: YES, NOW IT IS EVEN CLOSER TO USER TO MAKE VideoCD from an unencrypted .vob without CAPTURE BOARD. And being software only solution, this is THE DIGITAL WAY J )). No analogue involved.

ON THE ENCODING UPDATE, there are news, ESPECIALLY DVMPEG version 5.0 and its update version 5.1

On my earlier review of DVMPEG, I wrote that this encoder is for beginner wanting to touch base with mpeg2 encoding. Both its front end application and the plugins for Premiere are of average quality. Not the top choice for quality. BUT THIS FACT IS NO LONGER TRUE. DVMPEG version 5.0 creates wonder J truly its encoding engine is faster and better. The video output is crisp and stable. The only thing I havent confirm is the ability to do 3:2 pull down/up conversion to handle a film to video to film transfer. Credit to my cool online friend for updating me on this. He is a rogue Jedi in his own right J

On the player side. Ive found that LSX player is the least cpu consumptive and hardware friendly software to play vob. Period.

There is also a www.streamanywhere.com. IT is MPEG4. It is a ASF encode, it uses MPEG4 codecs, someone told me that it is much better than MPEG2. But I think he was referring to MPEG1. His information includes capability to convert a whole VideoCD movie from 2 CDs into ONE Cd at better quality than original. The problem with this format, being new at the field, is no support for player outside pc realm. Mpeg1 and Mpeg2 is worldwide and not pcworld dependent.

On the Authoring end. I have found streamweaver uniquely easy to use. Unfortunately, I have different version software to learn with a different manual to read. Strange but true. Scenarist NT, on the other hand, makes me headache when entering the section to create menus and navigational program. But make no mistakes. Scenarist NT is THE ONE TO CHOOSE to make PROFESSIONAL DVD Video J

New Section: TIPS.

1. On making 48khz sound sample for audio stream. This one from a rogue Jedi called Obi-Wan Kenobi: for exporting 48K wavs.... DON'T do it through QT4... export from QT4 FIRST as 44K... then IMPORT into Premiere and Export again BUT as 48k. Much better results.

Previous update by Oleg was the update on Updated bbDMUX to version 1.1 and uploaded bbINFO, an MPEG2 program stream analyzer. Both are now present in a single downloadable file, bbTOOLS. Also uploaded the source for both. Still good mpeg2 encoder. Still takes loooooong time to encode.

To create a DVD quality video/audio program stream (the growingly sought-after ..vob file(s)), one must first understand what DVD video/audio program stream is. The simplest way to say is, .vob is a joined MPEG-2 video/audio PLUS navigational program. Let us start with Mpeg-2 video/audio specs.

MPEG 2 Video - (the obvious) An MPEG elementary stream file with the extension of *.M2V. This file contains encoded video content material for the Video Title Set in the DVD Authoring Session. It is the most frequently used format for DVD-Video developers. Basic encoding parameters include:

WAV Audio - Windows standard *.WAV audio files may be used to provide PCM audio support in DVD-Video content files. The following parameters apply:

  • Sample frequency: 48Khz or 96Khz Sample size: 16 bits, 20 bits or 24 bits per sample
  • Dolby AC3 Audio - Is the most commonly used audio format for DVD-Video titles. The standard file extension type is *.AC3. The following encoding parameters apply:
  • Bit rate: Between 64k and 448k bps. Sample frequency: 48Khz only.
  • MPEG Audio - Standard files types are *.M2A and *.MPA. Either the MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 formats may be used. The following encoding parameters apply:
  • Bit rate: MPEG 1 single channel Mono: 64k to 192k bps MPEG 1 dual channel Stereo: 64k to 384k bps. MPEG 2 main stream: 64k to 384k bps. MPEG 2 extension stream: up to 528k bps Sample frequency: 48Khz only

We'll talk about the Stills used for Menus in DVD-Video disc at latter time. With the Specs. above, we can start our encoding session.

First of all, if you want have an edited mpeg-2 files, you will need an editing softwares. Try Adobe Premiere (version 4.2, version 5.0 and the updated 5.1). Now, this is the professional Non Linear Editing. In its native format, it will not create an output of MPEG-2 video/audio stream. But, plugins exist to output your edited video/audio clips to MPEG-2 video/audio clips. Such plugins are:

a. DVMPEG (version 4.32, 4.36beta, 4.36fix, 5.0 to 5.05) from www.darvision.com

DVMPEG is very installation-friendly. If you have Premiere installed, then installing DVMPEG will add BOTH the plugin to Premiere, AND standalone programs varying from avi/wav to mpeg-1/-2 video/audio converters; mpeg-1/-2 multiplexor/muxer (to "join" separated audio/video); and mpeg-1/-2 demux (to separate "joined" mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 program streams). Encoding to MPEG-2 is quite fast with both the Premiere plugin and the standalone program. Take into consideration, though, that MPEG-2 specifications will ask for certain parameters for compatibility when playing the final product. The quality of MPEG-2 video/audio streams made by DVMPEG so so (grainy). But this is ok for a start.

b. BBMPEG plugins for Adobe Premiere 5.0 above, and standalone avi2mpeg-2 converter. http://members.home.net/beyeler/bbmpeg.html This is a SHAREWARE. Installation will put a plugin (similar to that of DVMPEG) and a standalone ..avi2mpeg-2 converter. Albeit its slow encoding process/time, the resulting MPEG-2 clip IS BETTER than that created with DVMPEG. I've tested it :).

c. LSX-MPEG1/-2 avi2MPEG1/-2 converter from www.ligos.com (version 2.0, 2.5, 2.51)

This is a standalone converter. I witnessed modifications, perfections and finetuning from version 2.0 to version 2.51. As of this writing Ligos is also selling plugins for AVID NLE suite. I don't know about that. But demo of latest version is available from www.ligos.com. This Demo limit the output of your final mpeg-2 clip up to 30 seconds. The latest version is a BEAUTY! It's FAST, Hi-Quality encoding, and with some encoding features such as 3:2 pull down telecine detection. Problem is, LSX only accepts ..avi. And with the limit of a maximum full 720x480, 29.97fps uncompressed ..avi that is 2 G, you can only make a VERY SHORT MPEG-2 video clip (say.... under 2 minutes). NOW WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS LIGOS THINKING??? Bottom line, ITS MAJOR DRAWBACK is that it does not anticipate that AVI file has a max. of 2 GIG size (in normal Windows environment). AND, 2 GIG of uncompressed AVI with DVD specs EQUALS less than 2 minutes MPEG-2 clip. LIGOS SHOULD PUT A FEATURES to JOIN SEVERAL AVIS and ENCODE them into one/single .mpeg1 or mpeg2.

d. MEGAPEG from DIGIGAMI (www.digigami.com)

Digigami products includes an MPEG-2 plugin for Adobe Premiere, and a standalone avi/mov2MPEG-2 encoder. These two are the BEAUTIES!!!! The standalone and plugins for Premiere is available for demo. Both demos put caption in the first 5-10 seconds, then a logo on right bottom. ENCODING time is medium (slower than DVMPEG, faster than bbmpeg), but QUALITY is VERY GOOD. Read the manual carefully :)

e. XING Encoder v. 2.20. for MPEG 1 only (video and audio)

SIMPLY THE BEST MPEG1 ENCODER!!!. Use it for encoding audio for your mpeg 2 multiplexing session. But try the mpeg-1 encoder... LOOK HOW GOOD IT IS. It's available in demo at www.xingtech.com for both the standalone program and PLUGINS for PREMIERE 4.2 and 5.0. NOT FOR Premiere 5.1.

f.HEURIS MPEG Professional. (www.heuris.com)

WORDS SAYS THIS IS THE BEST. I just received the demo. More on this LATER. :)

NOW, TO MOVE TO DVD COMPLIANT FILES

This is somewhat confusing. Simply said, you HAVE to use DVD Authoring program to make the famous so-called VOB files. Simple multiplexing programs (such as DVMPEG, MEGAPEG, LSX-MPEG) can join video/audio streams to a fully working program stream, BUT THEY ARE NOT .VOB YET. Simply said, a .VOB needs some navigational programming (simple, but i don't know how, the DVD Authoring Software creates the navigational programming automatically).

If you only want to create a single .vob file, you are JOINING the audio and video. That's it. A demo of a DVD Authoring Software available at www.mtc2000.com along with other tools. It's called STREAMWEAVER. This program multiplexes video/audio (in its simplest use), and will output a DVD-Video compatible file structure (the \Video ts in every DVD-Video Disc).

Other more sophisticated DVD Authoring Suite are Scenarist NT from www..scenarist.com, Sonic DesktopDVD from www.sonic.com and some others.

My advise is try StreamWeaver and play around with 30second mpeg2. Find the best result that you can come up with.

I will be updating my page on this soon. :)
